A More Collegiate Dissection Of The Unjustified “Nas Opposition”

On Fox News’s infamous O’Reilly Factor, anchor Bill O’Reilly squarely aims his anti-everything-brown stance at Nas and his supposedly “violent” lyrics and “violent” past (he cites a misdemeanor gun charge as proof). His trusted strategy in trying to topple one rapper after another usually involves a panel of diametrically opposed commentators shouting at each other until he can interject with brawny shouts of his own. The result is a confusing raucous jumble of sound bytes that make the average viewer cringe at the shrill nature of rap music and its critics. (More …)

first of all anyone who watches any fox broadcast news commentary is getting a very biased viewpoint. o’reilly sucks, and i for one don’t try to watch him or any of those fox idiots, but i also realize that i must keep myself as informed as possible, and i need to keep abreast of the lies, so that i know what i’m up against. but in my most humble opinion i feel that rappers and writers for hip hop magazines though they crave or need and like exposure, should really refrain from those damaging shows that do nothing but try to discredit, and dismantle our culture. 30 plus years strong and billions of dollars made for corporate america, and they still call it a fad. until we the members of the hip hop community, (artists, and consumers) start to take ourselves seriously and call out ourselves and check ourselves we will never gain the respect we are deserved.

now i’m not for censorship, no way but lets start by respecting ourselves and not appearing on these chickenhead talk shows where people shout at one another. it makes us look stupid and uneducated. this is also extended to that dumb ass mtv cribs show. ain’t nobody really care where you live or what you drive unless they wanna carjack you. it’s just a modern day minstrel show. if you want to go on a talk show try charlie rose. a more enlightened audience. the o’reilly viewers are one minded idiots who believe rap music is responsible for the decline in american values, plus they ain’t gonna buy your music. bottom line we need to take hold of our destiny and put the power back in our hands. rap music has evolved into many different facets and has gone global, but essentially it was,is and always shall remain the voice of the people, now the people must speak up. rap music isn’t for them its for us, if they wanna listen to it our even buy it then by all means that’s great, but it is we who should determine its future. hip hop ain’t dead it’s asleep, cuz it has been co-opted by corporate america so that it can be consumed by the masses, and make them a rich, while we still killing ourselves over table scraps. we need to take a good hard look, cuz at this rate we are going to destroy and end up losing not only a musical genre but an entire culture as well, and after all isn’t that what’s at stake. think it can’t happen? well i’ll give you two little examples one is called rock & roll the other is called jazz both started out pretty much the way rap music did. we know where it is now or rather in whose hands its is now, but lemme see how many know in whose hands it once was? remember those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it.

Look y’all goota understand something Bill O’Reilly’s an asshole but so what , this story started before Bill O’Reilly and the blame everything thing on the media trip:
Here’s an article:
“Seven families of victims of the Virginia Tech shootings are outraged that Nas is scheduled to take part in “A Concert for Virginia Tech,” The Washington Post reports. The families say the rapper’s lyrics are too violent for a show that is being held in the wake of the April tragedy. Nas’ lyrics “are indicative of the moral decay in our society that contributes to acts of violence,” Vincent J. Bove, a spokesman for the families, told the paper. “For a university official to condone it or to be clueless of what this person’s track record is, it’s unconscionable beyond belief.” University officials responded by saying the announcement of the concert has been getting overwhelmingly positive feedback and that the lineup will not be changed. ..”

This stuff started with the familes protesting before the media and Bill O’Reilly got involved.
Now I’m not saying one way or the other but I got a question for all of yall, given the fact that soem of the families don’t like some of teh way Nas represents and given the way that killer got himself a gun,
should Nas be allowed to perform at VA Tech or not?
I dare yall to answer that

yes nas should be allowed to perform, remember nas is the original rapper/reporter he put it out there like that. think “one love” nas doesn’t promote violence, he just says it like it is. i’m not a big nas fan, but i give props where they are due. yes the story started before o’reilly got his grubby paws on it but now he’s fanning the flames and giving it national exposure. if you listen to nas 2nd cd listen to i gave you power. nas is actually rapping from the viewpoint of the gun, not the person holding it. and the gun has a conscience. in the end the gun makes a decision that truly makes him what he loathes, not only an instrument of death but actually a killer. now there’s a deep message in that.

bottom line is that rap music has been given this persona of ultra-violence, which it isn’t just that. rap music encompasses many facets, and through a process of growth and development nas like many others seeking longevity in the rap game have adapted and adjusted to the changes in it. nas rhymes just reflected the times. so what would make a better performance at vt? the black eye peas? now i’m not downing b.e.p. i’m just saying we have to address problems and not run and hide behind ” safe groups” or non controvestial performers. and in my book b.e.p. are entertainers that happen to rap. we need to stop letting others decide our fate. rappers write about what they know and unfortunately for them most grew up in the worst conditions, in the worst neighborhoods, in the u.s.a. so if they rhyming about sex , drugs, money , mayhem, murder, then do you blame the rapper for speaking about what he sees day to day? or do you blame the society that allows those conditions to thrive?

n.y.p.d.?, l.a.p.d.? , dick cheney?, george bush? are any of these people or organizations fit to speak at vt? they are gangsters in their own right, and have commited atrocities and crimes that all the rappers and their crimes amount to a 20. oz bottle of coke compared to a barrel of oil from these individuals. see it’s all in the presentation.
